Vintage 1960s oil on canvas painting by Peter Matosian of San Diego. Scene is surreal in style with two grotesque figures under an excerpt from the Witter Bynner poem The Old Men and the Young Men.

The original poem can be found in the September 1924 edition of the New Republic (Volume 40 - Issue 509 - Page 19) and reads as follows. Said the old men to the young men.

Who will take arms to be free? Said the young men to the old men.

What is there left to do? Hallmarks: Lower right is signed Matosian'62. Dimensions: Height 20 x Width 24 x Depth 1. Wear to canvas along edges.

Light soiling and dust to crevices. Tiny dimple to canvas in the crook of the arm of rightmost figure. Craquelure to paint along a few sections of the canvas.
