INSCRIBED BY STEPHEN SONDHEIM on the front free endpaper to Clive Hirschhorn, longtime theater critic for the British Sunday Express and author of several books on Hollywood.

Signed copies of this title (especially in hardback) are far more uncommon than those of his more famous published plays. I believe this is the only example currently online.

Further, Sondheim libretti signed to friends or colleagues are notably rarer than those simply signed to fans. Despite only 280 performances on Broadway, PASSION won the Tony for Best Musical. It is considered by many to be his most personal work, one of only three plays completely conceived by Sondheim himself, and written during the most romantic period in his own personal life.
