SIX'PRECOCIOUS PIGGY' PRINTS -THOMAS HOOD POEM LOVELY SET FOR FRAMING (c1870)
A LOVELY SET OF SIX "PIGGY" PRINTS. We found them in a Somerset bookshop, tucked away in a box of ephemera, without any identification. After his death, his children Frances and Tom prepared the book for publication by Griffin & Farran, London (1859), with the illustrations executed by Tom - the originals are now in the Huntington Library. First editions of the book are rare, fetching approx. These prints probably came from a later issue, and judging by the delicacy of the colour we would date them to circa 1870. The set are as we found them, with a few pages of poetry, no binding & no title - and they're beautiful in their own right, as can be seen from the scans, each one being on a larger than usual 245mmx185mm page & with an attractive patina.
