Description: Up for sale is a beautiful framed majolica painting on ceramic tiles from Maw & Co. It depicts a horse galloping and bears a poem about the horse in Chinese script.

It is in excellent condition with only a small bit of crazing in the glaze. The revival of an ancient craft Hand Majolica painting Majolica painting of ceramic tiles was at its height in the second half of the 19th Century and Maw's who specialised in this form of decoration were the leaders in this field. This raised outline is used not only to create the subject matters but acts as a wall to separate the various majolica colours and effects. This expertise has laid dormant at Maw's until its re-introduction in 1974 when local craftmanship was united in an effort to revive what was a forgotten art... Today Maw's have an extensive range of Majolica paintings which include re-introductions from the Victorian period, limited editions, wall murals, series and individual items.
