Author: Arts & Community Centre Notting Hill [The Crypt] Title: Program, Flyer, and ALS Publication: London: Arts & Community Centre Notting Hill, 1968. Description: ALS, with a trifold brochure [8 x 10 1/2"] and a Poetry Workshop poster [8 x 13"] folded for mailing, all housed in the original mailing envelope addressed to Tjeerd Deelstra postmarked September 5, 1968. Rare ephemera from the early days of the Community Centre, which had begun late in 1967.

The Centre was incredibly important venue for musical improvisation, free jazz, and experimental painting and poetry. As a music venue, it was better known by the name The Crypt. The letter, signed with an unintelligible signature, discusses the financial difficulties of the nascent venue - We have had to close the Crypt for awhile until we get more help and bread. " The brochure outlines the programs, including The Crypt, devoted to "Jazz, poetry and jazz, sound poetry, sounds and newgroups and theatre, " a poetry workship, educational programming for children, and a "New Dialogue School naming as participants Keefe West, Al Kovitz (for Spontaneous Music), and Ron Geesin (Sounds - Taped Sounds). The poetry workshop prints an unattributed poem, and urges readers to "bring your poems, " which has been circled in holograph.

A remarkable array of bands would end up playing at the venue before it was finally closed in 1972 - including Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and AMM. Poster with holograph additions, and folded for mailing else fine. ALS folded for mailing, else fine.
