A young girl's journal with original poems, daily activities, and two illustrations from 1862. Preston lived in La Salle, Illinois attending music classes and shopping. She also writes down the names of other people in her music class as well as the instrument they play, although she does not write her own. She has two illustrations one of which is a colored drawings of a doll, captioned "Maggie Maid of Hawthorne Dolls". The other is a sketch of a house at night with a boat floating down the Mississippi. Lastly there are a couple poems written by Preston, I dream of all things beautiful... Of dewdrops when they silently, at evenings twilight close, stoop down and kiss the beautiful fan, of a next unfolding rose.
