Edition Number: 1/100 Signed, titled and numbered in pencil by the artist. Supplied mounted on conservation quality mount-board and framed.

The print is in good condition and has recently been reframed with conservation standard board and a preowned black painted wooden frame. The frame has some wear but is in good condition overall and ready to hang on your wall. Paper Size: 225 x 355 mm approx. Image Size: 167 x 255 mm approx.

Marcus Beaven (1943 -) is a self-taught wood-engraver, who also worked as furniture maker and woodturner, as well as in Forestry. Examples of his wood-engraving are held in the Ashmolean Musuem in Oxford, and in the Hunt Institute for Biological Documentation, a research division of Carnegie Mellon University. Christopher Smart (11 April 1722 21 May 1771) was an English poet. He was a major contributor to two popular magazines, The Midwife and The Student, and a friend to influential cultural icons like Samuel Johnson and Henry Fielding.

Smart, a high church Anglican, was widely known throughout London. [1] Smart was infamous as the pseudonymous midwife Mrs. Mary Midnight" and for widespread accounts of his father-in-law, John Newbery, locking him away in a mental asylum for many years over Smart's supposed religious "mania. Even after Smart's eventual release, a negative reputation continued to pursue him as he was known for incurring more debt than he could repay; this ultimately led to his confinement in debtors' prison until his death.
