Festive Wine: Ancient Japanese Poems From The Kinkafu. Authors: Noah Brannen & William Elliot (translators). Artist: Haku Maki (1924 -2000). Signed/Sealed: Each print (21) signed Haku Maki in pencil with red seal. Edition: Limited Edition - 95/150.

Background: There are 150 limited edition copies of this book, for which Maki did the prints. This deluxe edition is folio in size, 12.50 H x 9.63 W x 1.5, and the prints have an image size of approx. 7.70 H x 5.50 W.

For each of the limited edition books, Maki did twenty one prints (frontispiece titled Kinkafu plus one print for each poem 20 prints). With ancient Japanese haikus on the facing pages. It is printed on kyokushi handmade paper and bound in hemp and goatskin with a washi dust wrapper which has had a window cut in the area covering the title. It is housed in a cedar wood slipcase (13.63 H x 10.38 W x 2.0). By mistake, this edition has print Poem 1 inserted on Haiku 2 page and vice versa. All the rest are in their respective place and all 21 prints are present. Additionally, Maki did another set of 50 prints for sale outside of the book.

Those were numbered using Roman Numerals. Condition: Prints are in excellent condition with only the first print showing some foxing on the top left margin.

No water marks, toning, rips/tears, creases or any other type of damage noted. All pages are in excellent condition. Washi dust wrapper paper does show some age with a couple of rips (See Image #5). Goatskin show scuffing on edges See Images #2 and 3. The cedar box is in excellent structural condition with some light scuffs on top and bottom edges of one side - looks like paint (see Image #1). NOTE: Rarely on the market, this is a great opportunity to obtain an outstanding example of Makis best known works. Truly a piece of art!
