Size 8.7" x 6.5". Pages xlvii, 387 [32 ads] ; xi, 439 ; xlviii, 481. Condition is very good, almost fine. These are lovely books have been protected by plastic sleeves so they are in very good condition. Pale blue, blind embossed boards with some edge toning and central gilt motifs; spines are tanned but in very good condition; hardly any wear to the spine ends(2 nicks at the top of vol 1), corners or edges. Internally the end papers are very good with a small book plate and signature of Sophia Lydia Wright. The bindings are firm and strong with all pages clean and bright apart from a few foxing marks on the Frontispieces and the backs of some plates, as is usual. These delightful books examine the historical depictions and legends concerning. Volume 1 Poetry of Sacred & Legendary Art........"Angels and Archangels, the Evangelists, the Apostles, the Doctors of the Church and Mary Magdalene". Volume 2 Poetry of Sacred & Legendary Art......... "Patron Saints and Virgin Patronesses, the Greek and Latin Martyrs, the Early Bishops, the Hermits and the Warrior Saints of Christendom".
