Early 1800s Handwritten Poem Book Calligraphy Folk Art Family Records Newspaper. We have a beautiful book of handwritten poems dated from the early 1800s.
The handwritten poems are done in beautiful almost art-like calligraphy writing. All the poems are signed by the individual who wrote them. The first entry is done by W. There is another poem dated 1826 written by W. Richmond and what makes this poem unique (besides the calligraphy) is a square cloth with a photo of what looks like an English man adhere to the bottom of the page not sure who the gentleman might be?
See our photos, Maybe Louis Claude Daquin or Victor Amadeus? There seem to be a couple of dozen poems all from the 1820s (multiple authors, some repeat). Also included in the book were paper clippings of Family Records such as Births, Marriage, and Death. There is a photo-static copy of William Bishop's mother's family marriage records that were in their Family Bible with dates starting in 1895.The copy had an Onondaga County Seal from a notary to show the authenticity of the records, which was dated in 1935. We have many clippings from newspapers showing birth and death announcements. There is a couple of full pages from the newspaper titled "The Lisle Gleaner from Broome County" dated 1895. All this extra stuff (clippings, newspaper) where in the poem book so we are including it. We are unsure if they (clippings) may or may not have been from relatives associated with the book as the book was handed down.
This collection of poems and records are very interesting and makes a terrific collector's piece!! The book is 9 3/4" by 8". The book is very old and has typical signs of use and age. There is foxing to the pages.
Overall a nice looking book to read and display! Various markings on newspaper clippings.
