Since this predates the American Westward Expansion of the 19th century, "Deerfield" must refer to a location on the East Coast -- possibly Deerfield Township, PA or NJ, or one of the many Deerfields located in the New England states. The sampler itself is on rough homespun, about 10" x 15". It is professionally mounted in a solid wood frame (apparently walnut), 17.5" x 23.5", behind glass. As you see, the sampler has not been mounted with any adhesive...Which is a good thing. It is free-floating, surrounded by a vintage soutache ribbon for decoration, and backed with a thick piece of fabric from the same period to hold it in place. The entire framing job was apparently done in the 1970s by a small shop in New Jersey (which is still in business today). But you must contact me before paying. Very well preserved, for being over two centuries old -- and f rom a non-smoking environment.
Yellowing/toning/soiling consistent with its age. Minimal stitch loss, though many words -- including the date (1794) -- are only readable with side-lighting because whatever color thread was used for those words has 100% faded to the color of the background cloth. The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique items always show their age. It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that there will be something about this item (or lot) that's not perfect and may need touch-up.I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.
