First published in 1770, this epic poem was written to bring awareness to the decline of rural America by describing the corruption and greed found in larger towns. Goldsmith comments on wealth disparity, was critical of industrialization, and reflects on the changing times in late 18. This work is from a very limited print run.

This particular example is numbered no. 20 of 250 numbered copies and is notable for the impressive illustrations by W. Lee Hankey, whose signature appears on the edition page. Collation: Complete with all pages. Binding: Vellum; tight and secure.
