With an engraved half title and numerous engravings throughout. Thomas Kibble Hervey (1799 - 1859) was a British poet and critic. While at Cambridge he began a lengthy career as a leading contributor to the Athenaeum in 1828, and published Australia, a poem (1824) and Prometheus (1832). He later edited Friendship's Offering (1826-27), and the Amaranth (1839); contributed to annuals; edited the Athenaeum (23 May 1846 to December 1853). With a preface, table of measures used in sculpture and an introductory essay On Sculpture to front.Illustrated with works by artists Wesmacott, R. Thorwaldsen, Carew, Bienaimé, Bacon, R. With previous owner's ink inscription to front blank. In a half morocco binding with marbled paper covered boards.
Externally, sound but with slight wear to extremities and rubbing to boards with slight loss to paper to rear board. Fine - Very well preserved copy showing very little wear. Only one or two minor faults, really a very attractive copy. Quite a wide term meaning no major faults but probably several smaller ones.
