About the Artist: The former professor and chairman of the department of Paintings, Drawings and Graphics at Ohio State University, SIDNEY (Sid) CHAFETZ initially gained international recognition in 1947 when he won the first Painting Prize from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Fontainbleau, France. Since then he has been a recipient of a Tiffany Grant, a Fullbright Fellowship and more than thirty first prizes and numerous awards from major exhibitions.

One man shows of his art have been held in New York, St. Louis and in Paris, France. During the 1960's, Sidney Chafetz became best known for his satirical art and for his incisive portrayals of cultural leaders and icons.

His honors and awards included two Fulbright Fellowships, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, a MacDowell Fellowship, and a Ford Foundation grant. Private and corporate collections worldwide, and in such museums as the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, the Museum of Modern Art, the Morgan Library, the New York Public Library, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Columbus Museum of Art, a major repository of his work.
